the one thing that has stuck with me every day since my English teacher told me it in middle school is:

"When referring to someone, always say who they are before anything else about them, because being a person always comes first"

Instead of saying “the mentally ill man,” say “the man with a mental illness”

Putting someone’s characteristics (especially negative ones) before them is dehumanizing and rude. Don’t do it.

Adam quoting Hamlet in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, Act III, Scene II

'Hiddleston said he was inspired by his character’s “sad disillusioned spirit” to reread Hamlet — also taking a cue from a character in the script — and found “so many of these lines could have been said by Adam,” before quoting several of the Danish prince’s speeches.

Hiddleston adds, “There’s a lot of Hamlet-ian sadness and doubt in him, I think.”

"So much of Hamlet seemed to make sense for Adam," Hiddleston concludes.’
